Bella Weddings

Last month I had the pleasure of attending the launch party for Bella Weddings Guide, a new Atlanta wedding publication. The event was held at the Glen Errol Estate, a private event facility in Sandy Springs.
Beautiful wedding gowns from Anne Barge were displayed all around the house.
I especially loved this miniature version of a wedding dress displayed on Anne Barge's table. The Anne Barge representative told me they can replicate any of their wedding gowns into a miniature version. This would be such a beautiful keepsake to have. The venue has a great outdoor area. The decor and flowers were provided by Event Design Group.
The table linens were lush jewel tones - perfect for fall -and were provided by Classic Party Rentals.Congrats to the Bella Weddings Guide for a successful launch party!

Vendor Spotlight:: Luxe Expressions

Today I am featuring Atlanta based Luxe Expressions. Creative Director, Debra Saba has stopped by today to share with us some of her designs and talk about her company.
Lemiga: Tell us a little about Luxe Expressions - what range of services do you offer?

Luxe Expressions: We are a couture design studio. We basically work from design concept through print. All the work you see in our online collections can either be customized to fit any event or we can design a custom piece from scratch. We have unearthed some of the best available textiles, ribbons, and embellishments to incorporate into the designs. Because most of our clients prefer letterpress as their print method, we design in such a way that allows for a luxurious indentation into the 100% cotton papers, which leaves a lasting impression on anyone who receives the piece. In addition to letterpress, we also offer engraving and traditional lithography as print methods.
Lemiga: What is your favorite new invitation trend?

Luxe Expressions: Trends seem to come and go so I love to work with all styles. Because we are couture, we can really make unique concepts work and we tend to break the rules from time to time. If I really had to pick one trend as my favorite, I guess I would say I like personally like the cultural inspired trends (like Indian and Arabic styled designs) because of their use of pattern and textiles. Patterns ink beautifully on the letterpress and because I have spent a lot of time in the Middle East and Europe, I found inspiration for these styles all over and incorporate them into my designs.
Lemiga: What has been the highlight of your career to date?

Luxe Expressions: This is a hard one. I had many great highlights. Because I came from a corporate America background that moved me all over, required me to live out of a suitcase going from one project to the next, and finally landed me into a spot that allowed me to build my own stationery company; I would say that I am grateful to my corporate past but I have found peace and balance in my life through my stationery design business. Wow, that was a mouthful wasn’t it?
Lemiga: What should potential clients look for when hiring an invitation designer?

Luxe Expressions: Because stationery says so much about the tone of a special event and is typically the first glimpse into what is to come, it’s important to really like the designer you work with so they can help you design the perfect piece. Custom designers have knack for working with different budget points and finding a balance between price and person style. Lemiga: Which invitation has been your favorite to design thus far?

Luxe Expressions: I love designing all styles and because my favorite process is to get to know my clients, even the simplest designs have left an impression on me. There is one design I call “Flowers is France” however that is probably one of my favorites. There is a certain way you need to design to have the piece ink beautifully on the letterpress and this piece broke the rules with large ink coverage areas so I loved that! Lemiga: Where are you located and do you have a studio?

Luxe Expressions: I have the pleasure of working out of my home studio, which my husband was so kind to design for me. I physically live in West Cobb (Acworth actually) and I love my little slice of country out back as it brings me joy and inspiration everyday. I guess it’s a good thing to be a designer because you get to work anywhere. For local clients, I meet them in person and for clients that are not local, I do a lot of mailing swatches through the mail and phone and email conversations. Thanks for stopping by today Debra and sharing your beautiful work!

Dare to Be Domestic - The Gifts That Keep On Giving

The best gifts often don’t cost a thing and Derrick Johnson, Domestic Life Stylish Coach, is on a mission to let his generation know it all starts at home. His motto is “Making Home-life Easy,” and he gives readers a fresh breath of insight and information everyday on his blog Dare To Be Domestic

He’s described as a more hip version of Martha Stewart. On his website, the word “domestic” encompasses everything from entertaining and dating to wardrobing, shopping, interior design and decorating—even etiquette—in addition to household cleaning tasks. Just as Rachael Ray prides herself on cooking made simple, Derrick Johnson wants to make simple… everything else. Simple, yet creative and on a budget. Why shop designer when you can create one of a kind? Why not fill the walls of your apartment with art you create. Derrick’s blog is only a month old, but readers are tuning in!

I am so excited to have Derrick stop by today to share some great ideas on gifts that keep on giving - gifts you can create on little-to-no-budget that will make a statement for any occasion.
*****************************************************************************
Hello Lemiga readers, I’m Derrick and below I’m sharing a few fun ‘artsy’ gifts you can make for your friends and family that are creative, memorable, low-cost and won’t get secretly thrown in the trash. I love this stuff. Enjoy!

Customizable Bottles of Wine
For my 30th birthday, a dozen of my closest friends and I did up Vegas big over two days. (I love being 30 btw!)I made them gift bags to hallmark the occasion. Of all the items I put in the bag, my own personal brand of wine was the biggest hit. Well, it wasn’t my own wine, but I made a killer label that people loved. I created it using Adobe Illustrator. I called it Derk John (a nickname from my friends) and it even had my picture. Try this crafty gift for any event; it is sure to turn heads. All you need is a printer (or Kinkos), paper, spray adhesive and a little creativity. Oh yeah, a hairdryer will help remove the original wine label. Just heat up the sticker and peel off. It’s easy, you can do it yourself, and the outcome is classy, real classy LOL! Download my template here. Simply change the text and picture to make it your own!

The Ultimate Mix CD
While the mix CD is no new concept, why not make one with an unusual theme? For birthdays, how about a disc filled with top Billboard songs from the year when your friend or family member was born? Maybe compile songs that only have your friend’s name in them, or maybe songs with inside jokes only you guys share? For my own birthday gift bags, I compiled a CD of my all time favorite songs throughout my 30 years. Then I designed an album cover with one of my baby pictures. The inside cover included a written description of why each song was special to me. iTunes makes making a mix CD easy and professional. If you really wanna shock them, record a personal message, convert it into a mp3 file and add it to the CD as an interlude. Works every time!
The Perfect Greeting Card
Why buy a card when you can make one? For one of my best friend’s 30th birthday, I did just that. Get out your old pics—you know the kind actually printed on paper—or print some out and cut them up to make a collage they will never forget. You could digitally scan the collage and using a card template in Word, print out the card on nice paper. And for the original collage, select a beautiful frame to house it – double whammy – a card and a keepsake all in one! There are many software programs or services like http://www.snapfish.com/, http://www.kodakgallery.com/ or http://www.cardnotes.com/ you can use. If you are using iPhoto, you can even order cards or prints directly from the program.(You can tell I’m a MAC man, huh?)Check out this link for a collage tutorial

Time Capsule
My best friend made one for me when I graduated high school. Almost 12 years later, we still have not opened it. It’s so simple to make. Find a decorative box that can close or lock. A cash box from an office supply store is a great solution. Fill it with items that have deep meaning between the two of you. This could include pictures, keepsakes, clothing articles, ticket stubs, old cards, a CD with music from the year the capsule is being made, a special book, anything! Present your friend with the gift capsule and a card with instructions on when to open it. How about 10 years from now? For added flair, decorate the capsule. Real special!

DVD Slideshow
If pictures say 1000 words, than pictures with music must say a million words. Put your director/film editor cap on and create a DVD slide show for your friend or family member using memorable photos and accompanying music. They will treasure this gift forever. There are many D.I.Y. programs for this and most new computers come with software to make such a product. Warning: This kind of gift can be a little embarrassing for the receiver, but it’s all in good fun!

Hope I sparked some new ideas. Be thoughtful of what your friend or family member likes and go from there. Have fun. Be creative. I Dare You To Be Domestic!

Featured by Blumebox

Blumebox is a great disposable vase that comes in a variety of colors. You can decorate them anyway you want and the best part is that guests can take them home! So you don't have to worry about collecting vases at the end of an event and guests can continue to enjoy the flowers for days. I have been using the blumebox product for years in everything from weddings, to showers to birthday parties. So I was completely excited when the company contacted me to let me know that they loved how I was using their products and wanted to feature my designs. Their October newsletter features one of my designs from a birthday party.
"Lemiga Events really knows how to personalize an event. We love the glam monogram on this centerpiece and we think it’s a fabulous idea to use with any occasion. (Xmas? New Years?)"

They have also featured some of my other designs in their idea gallery. Thanks Blumebox for recognizing my work!

Vendor Spotlight: Sublime Photography

Today I am featuring Atlanta based Sublime Photography. Owner, Jessica Scheufler, has stopped by today to share with us her work and a little about her wedding photography business.
Lemiga: Why did you decide to start your photography business?

Sublime: I decided to start my photography business because I loved shooting so much. I had worked for other photographers for some time and then decided that if I am shooting all the time, why don't I give it a go and start my own? So, I did.

Lemiga: How do you describe your photographic style?

Sublime: It is hard for me to describe my style because it is constantly evolving and it really depends on the scene. I love color and emotion, but I think the best way to describe my style is intimate. I like to get up close to my subjects so that I can build a rapport and figure out what makes them smile or laugh. If it means I need to stand still and wait, I will. If a little humor gets the shot I want, I will do it.

Lemiga: What do you enjoy most about your job?

Sublime: I love the interaction with my subjects and the creativity. Finding a wonderful moment and using my camera to express that moment is what makes me happy.Lemiga: If you could photograph a wedding any place in the world where would it be?

Sublime: Gosh, I don't know. I love to travel, so any place would really be a change of scenery. I have always wanted to go to Greece or Italy.
Lemiga: One piece of advice for Brides-to-be:

Sublime: Once the planning is over, enjoy the day. It goes by way too fast. Be sure to get a private moment in with your new husband. With all the excitement, it is easy to forget the person that you just married. Sneak off for a few moments if you have to and grab some alone time.

Lemiga: What qualities should a couple look for when hiring their photographer?

Sublime: The most important quality is chemistry. You are going to be spending a lot of time with this person, so getting along is crucial. You aren't going to get great pictures if you don't have some sort of connection with the photographer. Go with what feels right. Look at the work and if you can see yourself in those pictures, it is probably a good match.Lemiga: What details within the wedding day play the most important part in your photography?

Sublime: I love details and portraits. My favorite part of the day is that little slice of time I have with the bride and groom just after they finished the family portraits and have a little time together. You can just feel the excitement and love, and not to mention it is the absolute best time to get some killer portraits. I love photographing the details because there is so much that goes into planning the wedding that it would be a shame not to take pictures of all that work. The details are what makes the wedding so personal.
Lemiga: What has been the highlight of your career to date?

Sublime: Well there are two that both happened back to back this past May: shooting in NYC and San Antonio. Talk about a two different but wildly interesting weddings. The NYC wedding was an Indian/Greek wedding that was colorful and bold with lots of dancing and celebration. The San Antonio wedding was a Mexican wedding that was classic and beautiful. Both were just amazing. I was running around just trying to capture everything I could get my hands on.

Jessica is such a joy to be around! Her photographs have a magazine quality to them and her enthusiasm for what she does really shows in her work. Thanks for stopping by today Jessica!

Bonita J - Tips for Choosing Hair Accessories

Bonnie, owner of Bonita J, a bridal jewelry company, has stopped by today to give some tips and advice on choosing hair accessories for your wedding.

Hair Accessories for Brides & Bridesmaids

Selecting your hair accessories for your special day is an important final touch that will bring your entire look together. There are a few items to consider when selecting your hair accessories.

The first item to think about is the dress. Does your beautiful gown have any beading on it at all? Are there pearls, crystals, or rhinestones? If your gown does have embellishments on it, then use that as a starting point for your hair accessories. If you have pearls or crystals or both, select hair accessories that have those same pearls and crystals, as well as in the same color palette.

The second item to consider is what type of girl are you. Are you a tiara girl? Do you prefer something a little less understated, but still want that elegant and sparkly addition? Although tiaras are a traditional choice for many brides, not everyone feels totally comfortable in them. If you are that girl, a different hair accessory is the way to go. There are many other options which include hair combs, hair vines, hair pins and head bands.

Taking a simple single pearl or single crystal hairpin and adding about 6 – 8 of them to an up do adds a great splash of color and sparkle that looks great and is not overdone. Hair combs are a great choice for the side of a partial up do, to place on the inside seam of a French twist or on top of a chignon. A hair vine is a nice option to wrap around the side of the hair or work into a bun.

There are many hair jewelry accessory options for brides. If you are not to sure about a tiara, you now know that there are multiple ways to add that fancy sparkle to your hair to finish off your look and coordinate your colors. Thanks Bonnie for the great tips! Be sure to stop by Bonita J to check out their entire line of bridal jewelry. As an incentive for my readers, Bonita J is offering an exclusive coupon code for 15% off of your entire order (one use coupon - no minimum order). The coupon code is: LEMIGA
